I just found out I have celiac disease, can I still eat oatmeal?

Someday Asked: I just found out I have celiac disease, can I still eat oatmeal?

I’m getting mixed answers!

Some say that its okay as long as it was produced in a factory that does not come in contact with gluten products.

Others say oats all together should not be eaten?

I love oatmeal! I eat it every morning religiously! I tried the “Gluten-free Hot Cereal” and it just taste like grits.

So is oatmeal okay? My body is barely damaged from gluten, I was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes which is what triggered the celiac, it was only like a week before I was diagnosed with celiac as well becuase they screened my blood for other auto-immune diseases.

And I already felt better after just one day of not eating gluten.

If I can’t eat oatmeal, is there some type of substitute for it? Besides Hot cereal….

Thanks

You can eat uncontaminated oats! There are two companies that I know of that are producing guaranteed gluten-free oats. One is Gluten Free Oats and the other is Gifts of Nature.

Here are links to helpful articles on the whole oatmeal issue.
